About the program

Active English Academy’s General English Course is ideal for those who wish to improve their English language skills. Students on our General English Course learn how to use the English language to communicate with ease, expand their vocabulary and dramatically improve their writing and reading skills in any social situation. Our class sizes are small and our students feel that this helps them to improve quickly as the teacher spends more time helping each individual student and attending to their personal needs. Active English Academy offers the 2 types of General English Course: semi-intensive and intensive. Minimum entry level: Beginner (see Levels).

Programme Content

We focus on improving confidence in speaking, listening and understanding abilities in a range of everyday situations that the students encounter outside the classroom. Our practical and varied activities mean that students have every possible chance to take part in class and improve their English.

• Topical vocabulary and language
• Study of grammatical structures
• Pronunciation and listening skills
• Presentation and introduction skills
• Descriptions – past and present
• Making arrangements
• Conversational English

Programme Objectives

• Increase confidence and fluency in speaking
• Increase language accuracy to enable clear communication of ideas
• Increase understanding of grammar
• Strategies for following the main points of spoken English.
• Understand how to work in a multi-cultural environment
• Work on writing, reading and listening skills
• Focus on student’s personal needs and objectives

Students will be able to join in extracurricular activities, giving them the opportunity to practice their skills and develop their understanding of British business culture (see Business and Social Programme)

Students can talk to their tutors or Director of Studies any time during their stay about their progress and how to maximise their newly acquired skills. At the end of each course, participants will be assessed and advised on how to maximize their progress.
