Intensive General English Course + Afternoon Workshops (25 hours per week)

 

This General English course with four afternoon workshops is aimed at all students from Beginners to Advanced level who wish to improve their English language skills in everyday situations, as well as improving their skills in afternoon workshops for specific English subjects and consolidate their newly acquired skills The Business English workshops focus on topics such as presentations, CVs, interview techniques, and negotiations. The Intercultural Communications workshops invite students to explore British culture from a social and working point of view. The Consolidation English workshops reinforce and consolidate topics covered in class. The Exam Preparation workshops are dedicated to prepare our students to exams such as IELTS/FCE/BEC/TOEIC.

This course is available to adult students aged 18 and over.

Programme Content

The emphasis is on improving confidence in speaking and listening in English in a range of everyday situations that the students face outside the classroom. Activities are practical and varied to ensure students have every opportunity to participate and improve their skills in the English language.

  • Topical vocabulary and language

  • Pronunciation and listening skills
  • Social skills
  • Cultural awareness
  • Reading and writing skills
  • Conversational English
  • Ongoing testing, formal English test every 4 weeks and Case Study/Project work every 2 weeks

 

 

 

 

Consolidation English Workshops: Monday & Wednesday from 1.30 to 4pm

  • Consolidation of student-defined specific areas and support in the 4 main skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
  • Identifying student’s weaknesses (phonetics, grammar, etc.) and guiding improvements to enable autonomous learning outside classroom situations
  • Access to authentic English skill development materials, e.g. books, magazines, newspapers, online materials

Exam Preparation Workshops: Monday & Wednesday from 1.30 to 4pm

  • Focus on exam preparation (IELTS/FCE/BEC/TOEIC)
  • Teacher-supervised sessions on exam techniques and time-keeping skills
  • Access to practise exam materials

 

Business English Workshops: Tuesday & Thursday from 1.30 to 4pm

  • CV rewriting, Interview techniques; Presentation skills including visits from British recruitment consultants
  • Meetings; Telephone skills; Socialising/Networking; Negotiating; Personal Organisation; Project Management
  • Cultural briefing; Globalisation
  • Teamwork; Technology in the workplace
